Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine developed over 200 years ago by a German physician/chemist, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. The practice of homeopathy is based on an observation called the law of similars. What this means, in simple terms, is that what a substance can cause, it can cure. As Hahnemann developed this idea of similars into a science, he gave it the name homeopathy. The term homeo means "similar" and pathos means "suffering". Using this basic principle, homeopathy employs hundreds of substances that have all been thoroughly studied for their unique effects on body, emotions and mind.

The main difference between homeopathy and conventional medicine lies in how we look at a patient. Conventional medicine looks for what is the same between patients and then applies a uniform treatment to the disease. In homeopathy, we look for what is different, what makes each pet unique, so we can treat the patient. It is the whole pet who is affected by disease and it is the whole pet that responds to medicines.

Flower Remedies
In the 1930's, after spending many hours in hospital wards studying patients and their response to disease, Dr Edward Bach noticed that the personality and attitude of the patient played an important role in recovery, sometimes more than the medical treatment!! He discovered that "dis-ease" (meaning a state of being ill at ease about the body) was the result of a conflict between the body, mind and soul. He believed that one could prevent disease from manifesting in the physical realm, by recognizing and removing this conflict.

The Bach Flower Remedies consist of 38 different essences that may be used in any combination. I also have in stock some of the Kootenay Flower Essences produced and formulated by Penny Bonnett in Naksup, B.C. Although prepared in a homeopathic manner, the flower remedies are not considered to be homeopathic remedies. And, this is NOT aroma therapy!! They will not thus interfere with any other treatment modality so they can be used in conjunction with homeopathy, chiropractic, acupuncture etc. Additionally they are nontoxic and virtually impossible to overdose.

Bowen Therapy, or Touch Balancing, is a non-invasive therapeutic system utilizing cross-fiber muscle movement in specific areas of the body. Bowen therapy allows the body to reset and heal itself. The "moves" are performed in a certain order with short waiting periods incorporated during the session. This resting time is very important because it appears to have the action of allowing the brain to assimilate, correlate and create a positive response in the area being treated. When these "moves" are placed precisely across muscle and connective tissue, they alleviate a multitude of physical ailments. This has been verified by patients in clinical testing as effective in a high percentage of cases. I have used it in dozens of dogs and cats now and am finding it very effective in "fixing" their problem within a very short period of time.

Wellness Care
Excessive vaccinations in both dogs and cats is a topic that much has been written about and you can find more information in my articles as well as on the Links page. I have found that a relatively safe approach that seems to have minimal undesirable effects on the vast majority of young animals is to vaccinate when they are 12 weeks or older and to administer only single antigen vaccines.

Thus, a 12 week old puppy would receive its one and only Parvovirus vaccine and the Distemper vaccine would be given at 16 weeks, if at all. I recommend waiting on Rabies vaccination until the puppy is much older and I leave it up to each pet guardian to decide on whether it is even warranted. Kittens are only vaccinated if they will venture outside and, that being the case, they will receive one Feline Distemper (3-way) only at or over 12 weeks of age.

Once past these early vaccinations, there is almost never any immunological requirement for boosters. I recommend annual or bi-annual titre measurements to determine antibody levels, but very rarely advise booster administration, even if levels are waning.

Nutrition is another favorite topic of mine. Again, you can find more information in my articles and Links, as well as in the Testimonials . There can be no doubt that "We are what we eat" and the same goes for our pets. Would you enjoy an existence that required you to eat dry processed kibble as your only ration for many, many years? Do you think you would thrive? I didn't think so. Dogs and cats do thrive on a REAL FOOD diet consisting of raw whole foods with supplements added for extra benefits. Currently, I am in the process of formulating a line of Whole Food Concentrates in powder form that can be added to any type of diet and that will provide what I'll term "Super Nutrition" for our pets. If you want your pets to be everything they can be, then it might be time to look at nutrition as the key.

First Aid Kits
HOMEOPATHIC EMERGENCY REMEDY KITS
There are several options available. I use my own home kit regularly. The kits are very handy to use at home, the office or while travelling. I never go without it and have found it useful on a number of occasions.

Each kit will have GST added plus a shipping fee. All prices are Canadian dollars. 30c kits are slightly more potent than 30X kits. For experienced users, I can get 200c or 1M kits as well. Due to the cost of these kits and shipping, etc, all orders must be pre-paid by Visa or Mastercard.

  1. Helios Basic 18 Kit 30c
Contains 18 single remedies covering most common ailments and injuries.

    Price: $62.00

  2. Helios Basic 36 Kit 30c
Contains the basic 18 kit plus a further 18 widely used remedies along with a self-prescribing guide.

    Price:$91.50

  3. Helios Traveler's 36 Kit 30c
Contains the basic 18 kit plus a further 18 remedies selected for the frequent or long distance traveler along with guide. Thus, it has more of the diarrhea type remedies!

  4. The Medicine Box 30X (from US)
These fifty single remedies in 1/2 dram vials can be used as an emergency kit or a household kit. It contains some remedies from the emergency kit (below) and other commonly prescribed for additional acute conditions as well as a descriptive booklet. X remedies are not as potent and can be repeated more frequently.

    Price: $160.00

  5. The Emergency Remedy Kit 30c (from US)
This is the one I have. It contains 50 single remedies chosen for acute and emergency conditions, using very small pellet size in 1/2 dram amber glass containers. The case measures 5.5 X 2.75 X 1.75 inches. It contains a list of specific uses for each remedy. A great beginning kit or extra kit for office or travel.

    Price $180.00

ADDITIONAL "MUSTS" FOR AN EMERGENCY KIT:

Arnica Gel: Perfect for any muscle aches, sprains, or bruising. I have used this so many times on pets and people alike that I have lost count! Comes with a bonus pack of 30c pellets to be taken orally.

$17.40

Calendula Gel: One of my favorite topicals for use in any cuts, scrapes, burns or even open lacerations. I don't use it in puncture wounds because it heals the skin too fast. It is used instead of Polysporin or equivalent. It heals wounds faster and allows it to "breath". I even use it diluted as an eye drop for eye infections.

$17.40

HERBALS

There are many herbal remedies that are nice to have on hand as well for your own usage. See the Herbal Page on this web site for more information. I use a fair amount of Ginger mainly for stomach upsets or headaches. I also use Cat's Claw any time there seems to be a cold brewing in addition to a homeopathic remedy. It is an excellent infection-fighter. Slippery Elm is also handy to have on hand for those diarrhea episodes as is Aloe Vera Gel for both skin irritations and stomach upsets (the oral version). There are many many others, but these few would be the main ones that I consider part of an emergency kit. They cost in around $20-27.00 for 100 capsules.

Also available for anyone is Colloidal Silver or Silver Water, a natural alternative to antibiotics. I have any size bottle up to 500 mls, the biggest one being $15.00.
